California Academy of Sciences New Building
On my to-do list for a future weekend out in San Francisco: The new California Academy of Sciences building. This stunning edifice is a shining example of organic and urban marriage at it’s finest; a beautiful structure that blends right into the Golden Gate Park landscape and surrounding hills.
As reviewed by Green Strides, the building is primarily constructed with demolished debris from the old building. Lumber has been used from environmentally managed forests, and the fill area that was excavated has restored sand dunes around the bay area.
More about the new facility from calacademy.com Below: The new building with it’s 2.5 acre “green roof” consisting of native plants and vegetation. And a wonderful new home for their penguin friends!
