Mondays at Sputnik
I rarely go out on Mondays. We had a friend passing through town, spending one night, so we headed to Hamburger Mary’s for dinner. Of course my first choice as always is regular favorite Barricuda’s, (the booth next to the plug so I can charge the phone,) but due to the nice weather I was outvoted for a location with a patio. And as much as I love Barricuda’s I admit it can look a bit musty to a newcomer.
After Mary’s we drove down South Broadway to see what was happening at Sputnik. Turns out this comfy hipster hangout hosts Bingo every Monday, which gets pretty exciting and competive as the night races on.
The Bingo host also DJs - while keeping the game moving at a pace fast enough to keep from distraction but slow enough to socialize and re-ink your dabber. Dollar Miller Lites are the special on hand. In addition to actually using a dabber I learned new ways to mix up the Bingo board - like W of X patterns. I probably haven’t heard of them because I don’t play Bingo regularly. (Or never.)
Our other stops included the Compound, where we played two games of pool among a few regulars at the bar. Before Sputnik we also hit up Club Goodwill Store at Dakota and South Broadway. I purchased a coffee maker for six dollars. Not just any coffee maker, this Mr. Coffee machine, carbon dated from the year 2001, has a thermos like pot with a screw on lid – which means you can brew a pot, then take the thermos on the road. The couple in front of me found some of these glass kitchen containers, (for cereal and what not,) for pennies on the dollar. I was jealous as it was the last one.
