Shish Kabob Grill
A brief note on Shish Kabob Grill: I stop in here from time to time for Greek food and falafels, but my favorite item here is the Turkish Coffee. If I’m downtown I’ll often pop in just for a cup of coffee while sitting at the front tables watching everyone from bums to high level government folks from the Capitol pass by on Colfax.
This isn’t a Starbucks espresso. Rather a finely ground coffee made from pre-boiled beans, (called cardamom,) and then sweetened. It’s definitely bitter at first taste, but eventually you appreciate it. Or you don’t. Some like it, some don’t. If you’re the person at work who makes the coffee too strong you’ll like it – and you won’t have co-workers cursing you from the break room.
My second favorite item here is the cucumber yogurt salad – a soupish type salad made from diced cucumbers, mint, garlic, yogurt and salt.
Everyone in Denver has probably walked or driven by Shish Kabob at some point – and even if you don’t care for quicksand like coffee it’s worth checking out for gyros and spiced rice.
They’re at 1503 Grant – and Colfax and Grant. www.shishkabobgrill.com

Turkish coffee definitely has a kick to it
Yeah I need to start visiting here in the morning, because having even a cup after 6pm prevents me from falling asleep at 11.
This does way more for me than any Red Bull or energy drink.
I love their tabbouleh salad, and the falafel sandwich is a bargain, but I’ve never tried the Turkish coffee. I’ll have to order it the next time I’m in.
