Tru TV . Party Heat
In January of this year the cable channel “Court TV” re-branded itself as “TRU TV.” I like(d) Court TV and their investigative crime shows, especially the half hour show Forensic Files. Fortunately these intelligent and interesting shows like “Forensic Files” and “Murder by the Book” are still in regular rotation. Unfortunately, they’re jumbled in with idiotic crap like “Most Shocking” (car accidents with poorly synced audio of screeching tires and sirens dubbed in,) and ”Party Heat.” – which claims the motto “Wed, Wild, and Under Arrest.”
I won’t damage the high integrity of this blog by posting a clip of “Party Heat,” but you can watch it here. This reali-mentury or whatever comprises a full hour of intoxicated spring breakers partying it up on Lake Havasu and other locales. The unlucky ones take breathalyzers, unskillfully pilot boats and jet skiis, (while drunk,) and jump off piers and cliffs, (also while drunk.) Juxtaposed alongside these youths are professional sherriff and police departments who grimace and blanch to maintain their patience through each day’s ordeal – which generally consist of ensuring nobody accidentally kills themselves between the numerous alcohol checks.
Sadly, this combination of programming by TRU TV doesn’t make any sense, as it attracts two completely different audiences. I don’t plan on being a regular “Party Heat” viewer, and I’m guessing fans of car chases and sunburned frat boys will tune out shows featuring the detailed reconstructions of murders and crimes of low and high profile. I can’t see my “smart” shows staying on the air much longer, and the only time I’ll find myself watching Party Heat is if I fall asleep on the couch again. However a “Party Heat” theme party sure sounds fun.
If you enjoy Court TV’s original programming, like Forensic Files, you should order ‘em up on DVD now since I predict they won’t be around for long. Conversely, if you’re a fan of stupid bullshit I highly recommend Tru TV’s current lineup. They even offer “Party Heat” fans a forum for networking and discussion.
Speaking of Lake Havasu – word is my (now legally if I want) sister-in-law and her husband own a house out there someplace. I hope to God its nowhere near the “Party Heat” cove.
