Hallmark Gay Wedding Cards

Hallmark recently announced a line of cards for gay and lesbian couples. While gay marriages aren’t recognized in most states, many couples celebrate commitment ceremonies with family and friends. A card of such nature would be useful and appropriate for these occasions. At least that’s what Hallmark think.

Outraged? Hell’s yeah I am. This puts ME in the uncomfortable situation of having to explain to MY children why a tuxedo clad Adam and Steve are staring down at them from the card aisle hand in hand… Why should I have to explain such moral atrocities to my children when I simply want to run into the supermarket for some tater-tots? Ridiculous. So I did what any like minded concerned parent would do – I emailed Focus on the Family:

Hello there! I just saw this news article about Hallmark providing gay WEDDING cards!!?? Do we have any plans to boycott them or make a point or our disdain for the incorporation of homosexual rights into the mainstream?

I for one do NOT want to have to explain to impressionable children what TWO MEN represent on these cards. Sheesh McGeesh!!

God bless you and your beautiful lush hilltop Colorado Springs campus – James…

Turns out they’re already on the case:

Thank you, James, for contacting Focus on the Family. It’s my privilege to respond to your correspondence.

We appreciate your sharing your thoughts with us regarding this decision by Hallmark. In response to your inquiry, we have provided a link to our CitizenLink Web site for information on our call to action:

Not only is Focus taking Hallmark to task, they’ve already been bothering, pestering, annoying newspapers that publish same-sex commitment announcements. This above Citizen Link post details:

While it’s not illegal for newspapers or Hallmark to cater to the homosexual community, they are disrespecting the law in 27 states.

“It’s entirely possible that newspaper staff has not connected the dots between having a state constitutional amendment and requests to publish same-sex ‘marriage’ or commitment announcements,”

That’s right – FOTF is COMPELLED TO REMIND THEIR FOLLOWERS that its not illegal for a company to market to gays. Somewhere along the chain there was actually a question or some confusion on the legality of a company (or newspaper,) catering to the gay community – which merited this blithingly obvious statement. If you’d like to see which newspapers are “sidestepping state laws” you may visit their link.

However if you’re completely morally bankrupt you may even want to offer a word of support to these newspapers, and the same to Hallmark. But only if you’re completely soulless.

  1. wait – i’m confused. are you saying this really makes you sick? or are you promoting hallmark for this?

  2. Hi gijyun – thanks for visiting my site. I’m currently visiting central Florida and Tampa so I needed to channel my inner evangelical for a short spell.

My true thoughts on FOTF are best explained via this Denver post column from a few years back
