What up bitches – only 14 fab days til the Gay Travel Expo hits San Francisco! Ok sorry I don’t really talk like that. And I’m sure the professionals at the Gay Travel Expo don’t either. This one day event tours the country throughout the year, focusing on connecting local businesses with marketing and advertisers local and national. After S.F. they’ll be in San Diego on October 30th, then Fort Lauderdale on December 9th. If you have a gay owned business, or just want some our perceived endless disposable income – then check ‘em out.
Here’s my plug for one of the best gay owned businesses I’ve ever stayed at: The Burgundy B&B in New Orleans. Next time you’re down that way book a stay with Carl. Its in the beautiful Faubourg Marigny neighborhood – and great coffee at Marigny Perks!
The Great American Brew Fest here in Denver has wrapped up. Carfreetrip.com has a decent roundup of Denver microbreweries.
Local brewer turned Mayor John Hickenlooper outlines Denver’s future transportation plans. And guess what? It includes substantial considerations for “people powered” transit. Designing and improving our already above average infrastructure for bikes and peds is certainly something that makes me happy to read. We have and excellent network of bike routes, which makes for pleasant commuting in Denver and surrounding neighborhoods. I would like to see that expanded to the more outlying areas where utilitarian cycling can be more challenging.
The metro area is expected to grow 30 percent by 2025, but don’t expect Denver to widen many roads or add more lanes for cars. Instead the city will make improvements that encourage people to bike, walk and use public transportation.
“We can create a city that is walkable, bikeable, transit friendly, that is vibrant and inviting,” said Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. The mayor says this is a fundamental shift, the first of its kind in the country, that focuses on moving people, not cars.
