Colorado Birding Trails
I would dare say November is the least outdoorsy month in Colorado. The mountain hiking routes are often snow covered, and even lower elevation trails can be cold with windy winter storms and dark skies by early afternoon.
Its still too early for prime ski conditions, and the only people camping are doing so in front of a Target automatic door after devouring their Thanksgiving dinner. Not exactly my choice of urban adventure.
The Colorado Birding Trail site has some trails in areas I would label as more “fall friendly” if you’re a casual or intermediate hiker. These walks and hikes are geared towards bird watching, so many traverse fields and valleys of the less traveled eastern plains where sunny weekend days can be very comfortable in the fall. Its not Colorado extreme, but nobody tackles Longs Peak in November anyway.
For research and prep this site contains an 86 page trail guide with trails and trailheads by regions, and lists all of the avian friends you’ll encounter along the way. I’m far from an expert birder, (I don’t even own a pair of binoculars,) but this website and printable guide is a great resource for visitors and locals alike, and useful for all four seasons.
Be seeing you on the low elevation trails…

Handy! Thanks!
