You will be happy to know that we now have plastic scoops available to stores so they do not have to waste all the paper and cardboard. If I were you I would be more worried about the food being well over the cold line, likely reaching danger zone tempatures.

I have no personal experience with waste or taste or anything else at Subway, because one of my personal commandments is: Thou shalt not eat at chain restaurants.

Hi Tracy, I work at Subway as a sandwich artist and know what you are talking about because we do waste alot. At my specific store we set the sandwiches in little green baskets when you are dining in so it helps slow down the waste. Sorry I can't help out any more then that on reducing waste.

On top of the wasteful cardboard trays it really bothers me how much waste is produced at Subway in general. Even when you dine in, they still wrap the sandwich in wax paper and then again in the Subway wraper and they toss it in a bag which makes its way to the waste stream before you even leave the door. On top of that the straws are all individually wrapped. I have E-mailed the company before and did not receive a reply. I really like their food. Its good when I need something fast but I have been very tempted to boycot due to all of the waste. Its clear that they don't care about my business or the environment.

I am not sure - but I don't think meat sitting out in paper is really a good idea. The meat will start to get slimy - unless you toast it and kill the germs.

I have seen at several Subways around the country, the one I frequent most, does the portioning using wax paper between the layers of cold cuts.
