NYC Subway Art
I noticed these little sculptures scattered throughout the New York City subway station at 8th Avenue and 14th Street.
Created by artist Tom Otterness, these little characters lightheartedly depict life in the city and the subway – with tourists, officers, and city dwellers interacting and going about their business.
More from Otterness’s “Life Underground” collection at Tom O Studio.com - and an NPR article from a couple years back.

As a reformed New Yorker, I am amazed that no one has chiseled these endearing little sculptures from their perches and made off with them.

I believe that in NYC, like London, almost every corner is under the watchful security camera eye of the police.
I guess that’s one good thing about constant surveillance!
