Nederland

On Sunday I spent the day in Nederland, Colorado, before and after a steep hike near Eldora.

I’ll post on the “Whistler Cafe” later. (You can’t miss it – the building is a bright buttery yellow!) But for now here are some photos of summer afternoon in the Rockies.

The “Fourth of July” trail is four miles down a dirt road past the town of Eldora. I’ve skiied Eldora before, but never driven through the village of the same name, just four miles past Nederland. The buildings along the street give it a ghost town appearance, but there are some residents who live in Eldora, and have cabins on the outskirts of town.

We finished the hike just as a cold drizzle started – and fortunately my thermos of coffee was still warm in the car.

  1. Hiking from this trailhead to the Fourth of July Mine rather than to Diamond Lake has been a favorite destination on, of course, the Fourth of July.
