Thanks for sharing that. I mentioned in this post I always like having a backup place to stay - but if there's nothing available there's no other option despite how much research you do. (And why should you have to if a company acting as a travel agent is taking care of you?)

Sad to think if this happened to a big family. If I were you in that situation I may have just slept in the lobby with my earplugs...

On a better note I did receive follow up and a resolution from Travelocity, which I'll post shortly.

I have had my fair share of run ins with Travelocity and a few others. I use them only as a research tool, preferring to do my booking direct. On more than one occasion (before I wised up) I showed up at a hotel, having booked through Travelocity, only to find they did not have rooms. The hotel had informed Travelocity that they were over sold and no rooms would be available, but they sold them anyway. Unfortunately it was in an area with only a couple of suitable hotels, all fully booked, so a 40 mile drive was in order to have a bed for the night.

Travelocity was not helpful at all in the situation, all they would tell us is that the reservations had been canceled. DUH! I will give kudos to the local hotel staff in helping us to locate an alternate property to stay at. I suspect most business travelers have learned as I have, when you spend ~300 days a year on the road you learn very quickly.

Hi Joel - thank you for the prompt response. I forwarded you a note from my personal email.

In order to help others I hope steps can be taken to ensure that if a future error is made by your team, then action can be taken to correct it with your partners, and if unable to then offer the customer a full credit back.

Thanks again.
