I’m always on the lookout for new routes to Mexico and points further south. Latin America is a wonderful place to travel, and in most places the dollar is still strong. Unfortunately the opposite is true with the cost of airfare, especially to South America. That’s partly while I’ll be in Mérida for a week in December instead of Chile or Argentina. Not that I’m complaining, I love the Yucatan.

Aeromexico is introducing service to Mexico City from Salt Lake City, starting November 16th. Delta already flies this route in addition to servicing a few of the usual Mexican resort towns. I would hope this might spur some initial competition between the two, and if connecting cities wound up on the weekly deal emails then all the better. Pictured is Aeromexico’s Mexico and Central America service from Airline Route Maps.com

This is good news for residents of Salt Lake and travel buffs residing in the vast surrounding area. If you’re a Denver reader who finds a really good deal out of Salt Lake you can always be adventurous and piece airfares together too. It may appear cumbersome, but I wouldn’t be opposed to purchasing a separate budget hop over to Salt Lake if it saved me a few hundred per person and it didn’t eat up too much travel time. (With the obligatory baggage claim contingency warning.)

Out of curiousity however I priced SLC-MEX on Kayak for mid January. Delta is $545, Aeromexico is $698. Definitely no big specials as of yet, but still a resource for the price conscience traveler to consider.

And according to the Deseret News your trip on Aeromexico will include full meals and cocktails, complimentary.
